Conclusion on modifications in general

In conclusion it can be pointed out that in the Vedic culture there are many spiritual disciplines; for example, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Tantra Yoga, Mantra Yoga and Laya Yoga, etc.

These ancient oriental spiritual disciplines propagated by the ancient yogis have no inadequacy in themselves. These are the paths to Eternity. All these paths are there to cover the various sentiments of the whole human spectrum, so that everyone should have a path of his own.

In the words of Paramhansa Sri Ramakrisna, “Jata mat tata path - As many as there are sentiments, opinions, or convictions, among men, that number of paths there are.”

In other words, each individual self must find his enrichment, contentment, and fuller life in the state of inner Realization of the ultimate Self.

Each path has its own rules and regulations; each path is complete in itself, a proven path. Some ancient yogis among the realized have revealed the message, or the discipline.

It will be in the fitness of righteous spirit to accept the discipline in entirety with all its implications.

No one, Indian or Western yogi, has any right to amend, modify, or adjust anything of an ancient Indian spiritual discipline. In fact, there is no room for it, as the disciplines are all proven paths to Eternity.

Western devotees visit India and study in some hermitage for a time to learn some spiritual discipline and return to the West. Some study in the West under an Indian Yogi. Then they start their own schools and teach in Europe and in the U.S.A. They add more techniques, developed by themselves, to the discipline that they have studied. In the name of making the discipline more powerful and effective, they add techniques of their own.

(Note - In the light of Kriya, ‘Studying’ does not mean learning the discipline in the conventional way; rather ‘Studying’ means ‘dissolving the intellect and holding onto the ultimate Self.’)

In fact, they are in a confused frame of mind wherein it never occurs to them that the discipline they learned is complete in itself and there is no room for improving it. All they are doing is showing their egotistic and imaginary experiments. They are trying to accommodate their own weaknesses in the name of making a spiritual discipline more effective. They want to add their contributions, rather confusions, to the discipline.

Neither do these novices understand the path of Eternity, nor do they realize anything. Had they realized, they would have developed the spirit of tranquility, contentment, and found eternal Silence and Peace.

Instead, they developed eagerness to show their ego, trying to help others in the name of God’s work. It is the same old game of displaying ego; and starting a school or organization is a good way to display it.

In society, in the average person’s mind, the common psychology to measure realization of a yogi or sage is to see how big his organization is. It never occurs to them that organizations, groups, buildings, and numbers of centers, are not the true vehicle to measure the state of inner Realization of a Yogi. The whole world is his reflection and for that matter all are in him.

In India, the spiritual teachings are handed down through Master to disciple which is called Guru-param-para. It is the righteous way. It is a tradition; it has its own value and place.

In the Vedic society, it is inconceivable to amend a spiritual discipline or the tradition since there is no space of inadequacy in the established and proven disciplines.

A Westerner, growing up in the Christian culture, which basically has one discipline, the path of Love, cannot even conceive of the seriousness of amending a proven spiritual path of the Vedic culture. They simply fail to understand it because they are so conditioned in their minds with their ‘ego trip’ and ignorance.
